Oak Ridge plays Saturday in Tennessee; week off for Folsom Bulldogs
Still in non-league competition, local high school football entered its third week of play Friday night. While the Folsom Bulldogs had the week off before they take on Turlock next week, Cordova was back on its home field, while Vista del Lago and nearby Granite Bay both hit the road. Oak Ridge High School competes Saturday evening, very much on the road, in Tennessee, where it faces McCallie.
Close to home, it was another strong night for the Cordova Lancers and another tough week for Vista. Coming off their milestone 400th career win last week on the road, Cordova continued its early-season dominance to remain undefeated. Playing back on their own field, the Lancers held Valley Christian of Roseville, the eighth-ranked Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII team, scoreless, with a final score of 33-0.
Cordova will have the night off this coming Friday as it gears up to begin conference play in the newly formed Metropolitan League on Sept. 20. The Lancers will travel to West Park in Roseville for that league opener. Currently, both teams are 3-0 in pre-league play, as West Park has one more non-league matchup next Friday against neighboring Woodcreek.
Vista made the haul west to Fairfield to face the Vikings of Vanden. Vista got on the board early, putting up seven over Vanden’s three in the first quarter, courtesy of a 60-yard pass by Jack Cromwell to Will Green with six minutes on the clock. Before the half, Vanden had 24 on the board to Vista’s 14 after the Eagles’ Grant Rogers nailed a 25-yard pass to Matthew Werpy for what would be their second and last TD of the game.
The Eagles went scoreless in the second half while Vanden racked up 14 in the third quarter and another seven in the final for a final score of 45-14. Vista will remain on the road next Friday as it faces Oakdale in another non-conference game.
In Granite Bay, the Grizzlies traveled to San Jose to face the Royals of Overfelt. The Grizzlies brought themselves to 3-0 on the season, defeating 0-2 Overfelt 65-6. Granite Bay has a week off ahead before it faces Jesuit for its first conference game at home on Sept. 20.
