Alleged person of interest reportedly taken into custody by Folsom Police late Thursday afternoon

Security at two Folsom Schools has been increased as the Folsom Police Department continues to investigate and work with the Folsom Cordova Unified School District after a series of social media posts by a parent have raised concerns of parents.

Parents and staff at Carl Sundahl Elementary School and Sutter Middle School were told Thursday in a statement by Superintendent Erik Swanson the FCUSD is working with the Folsom Police Department to keep this parent away from the schools after what they posted. School officials also sent notices to parents on Wednesday. Both the school district and the police department are not publicly detailing the specific content of the posts.

“We are aware that a parent in our community, who is highly active on social media, has been posting inappropriate content that is causing significant concern among our parents,” read Swanson’s statement. “Both FCUSD and Folsom police are taking steps to keep this parent away from our schools. Because this is an active investigation, neither we nor law enforcement can release details or answer specific questions about the many steps being taken in this situation.”

On Thursday, the district reportedly increased its staff to the campuses to monitor the situation and provide an increased adult presence. Folsom Police have continued to have a presence at the school’s as well.

“Points of access are being closed and/or monitored and cameras are posted throughout the campuses to add additional security. In response to this concern, we have sent additional mental health professionals to the schools for any student or staff needing extra support,” the superintendent’s statement continued as he cited that the school district will continue to take the necessary measures to ensure students and families are safe.

The Folsom Police Department also released statement’s to the community beginning on Wednesday, ensuring that safety measures were being implemented but not releasing specific details of the content of the posts or the poster.

“We have been actively working on ensuring the safety of everyone at the school, in partnership with school officials. Because it’s an active investigation, we can’t release details or answer specific questions about the many steps we’ve taken in this situation. We believe we have taken reasonable steps to address the concerns and we will be constantly monitoring the situation,” said Folsom Police. “We know the “unknown” threat is concerning. Please do not call our dispatch center to ask for details. We need to reserve those lines for people who need a police response, and the dispatchers will not be able to provide you with any additional information.”

Around 4:00 p.m. Folsom Police took an adult female into custody in regards to the case. No further details are being released by police as it is still an active operation. The arrest reportedly took place while the alleged suspect was broadcasting live on Facebook.

As of 4:20 p.m. this was still an active investigation, this posting will be updated accordingly as additional details are released.
