A woman who snatched a package from the porch of a Folsom home found herself in a sticky situation with Folsom Police Monday evening.

According to Folsom Police, at approximately 4:30 p.m on Monday, an alert resident noticed a woman take a package off of off resident’s porch in the area of Creekside Drive and opened the box, prompting the call to Folsom Police.

“We sent officers and found the woman running from the apartment complex along a bike trail, then onto the railroad tracks,” Folsom Police noted in their report.

According to the department, officers on the ground, as well as those in a helicopter that was already in the air from the Sacramento Police Department tracked the woman as she ran into the wetland area along the nature trail.

Officers called out to the woman, who had become stuck in the mud while fleeing on foot.  The woman eventually made her way out of the muddy area and surrendered to officers.

Erin Lynch, 49, of Folsom, was arrested for the theft. However, because of California law and the low value of the stolen items, the crime was classified as a misdemeanor and officers were required to release her following her arrest with a court date.

“Although state law requires a field release for some arrests, the Folsom Police Department remains committed to relentlessly pursing crime and holding violators accountable,” the department said in a statement.
