A fast response by Folsom firefighters stopped the forward progress of a quickly moving vegetation fire that initially threatened structures in a Folsom neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
Just before 4 p.m. on the July Fourth holiday, 911 dispatchers received a call reporting the fire near Morningside Drove and Silberhorn Drive in Folsom near several residential homes.
Units from the Folsom fire department responded to the incident. As units approached the fire they reported in was approximately a half acres in size with a moderate rate of spread in dry fuels (vegetation) and that several structures were immediately threatened.
Incident command requested helicopter assistance for the incident due to the nearby structures and fire conditions. Firefighters quickly were able to stop the forward progress of the fire and mitigate the threat to structures.
A total of five units from the Folsom were dispatched to the scene and one copter. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Folsom Times photos by Brian Greenwalt.
