Motorists along a section of Folsom Boulevard and other intersecting streets in Folsom can expect lane closures to continue a bit longer than expected.
According to the City of Folsom, Sacramento Regional Transit District’s continuing construction efforts to add a passing track to provide 15-minute service frequency to Folsom area stations are expected to take a few additional weeks.
“The anticipated completion date and the temporary bus bridge and road closures have been extended a few weeks due to the required movement of underground conduit,” the city shared with the public on Friday morning.
Once construction is complete on the project, which has had some motorists grumbling about lane closures, new low-floor light rail trains will operate on the Gold Line between Sacramento Valley Station and Historic Folsom Station every 15 minutes on weekdays.
According to the city, the lane closures will remain in effect on Folsom Boulevard as part of the project. These closures impact the stretch of Folsom Boulevard between Bidwell Street and Parkshore Drive. Officials did not specify the exact length of the delay outside of being at least a “few weeks.”
Glenn Drive between Folsom Boulevard and Coolridge Drive is expected to reopen in late September. Light rail service is available at Iron Point Station for travel to and from downtown Sacramento with the use of bridge buses into Historic Folsom.
While the rail project undergoes delays, the city also announced that the pipeline replacement project along Folsom Boulevard, which was also impacting travel at times, has been completed.
This critical infrastructure project involved a one-mile section of Folsom Boulevard from Blue Ravine Road to Bidwell Street. The pipeline project was necessary to improve the city’s water and wastewater infrastructure’s safety, reliability, and resiliency, according to the city’s announcement of its completion.
The project was completed in four phases over a year and represents the City of Folsom’s commitment to delivering exceptional and dependable services.
