Suspects left stolen vehicle, fled as Folsom Police, Sacramento Sheriff’s, Citrus Heights police respond to burglary in progress

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, together with the Folsom Police Department is continued to investigate an overnight burglary in which at least two dozen firearms were stolen from an Orangevale gun store in the early morning hours Tuesday.

According to the report, it was at approximately 3:45 .m. on Tuesday, July 23 when units from. the Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies, Folsom Police and Citrus Heights Police all responded to the Guns and Ammo store on Greenback Lane in Orangevale regarding a burglary in progress.

The business owner was reportedly calling authorities while remotely monitoring a live video from inside the business where he reported an unknown individual running around inside and the front window having been broken out.

As Deputies arrived on scene along with the Folsom Police Department and Citrus Heights Police Department, they observed a vehicle parked in front of the business. The vehicle was empty and the responding Deputies and Officers cleared the inside of the building, as the suspect(s) appeared to have fled prior to their arrival.

Sheriff’s Property Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, began their investigation, interviewed witnesses, and began to gather evidence. Deputies and Detectives learned the vehicle in the parking lot, a gray Kia SUV, was stolen earlier that night from Fair Oaks, but had not yet been reported.

The suspect(s) appeared to have used that vehicle to back into the storefront window, then gained entry into the business. The suspect(s) then stole at least 25 firearms and fled in a different getaway vehicle.

Tuesday’s burglary is the second of its type in the area this week after more than 45 firearms were stolen from a gun store in Newcastle early Monday morning.

In the Newcastle burglary, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported that the burglary started just before 1:30 a.m. when a suspect started removing wood siding from Foothill Firearms along Taylor Road in Newcastle. Between 45-50 handguns were then stolen, the sheriff’s office says; no ammunition was taken.

According to reports, one suspect was seen on security camera, but they’re looking into the possibility that there are more suspects linked to the burglary. No description has been given of the suspect caught on camera. At this time authorities have not said if the Newcastle and the Orangevale burglaries are believed to be connected.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
