Communities of Garden Valley, Georgetown, Volcanoville, Mosquito and Quintet added to evacuation zone

Officials from Cal Fire and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Departement have announced significant expansion of evacuations in El Dorado County as of Wednesday as the Cogir Fire has grown in size and speed. 

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. the Sheriff’s Department announced that theEvacuation Order Zone had been extended to the greater portion of the Garden Valley, Georgetown, Volcanoville, Mosquito and Quintet communities in El Dorado County. 

At last report, the fire that started in the early morning hours north of Placerville near  the community of Swansboro had exploded to 392 acres Wednesday evening. Around 10 a.m. the fire’s large acreage was reported at 182 acres. Conditions throughout the late afternoon and evening have challenges firefighters in slowing the rate of forward movement of the fire. At this time they report the fire is at 5% containment.

For those displaced by the Evacuation Order, there is a temporary evacuation point at the Placerville Library at 345 Fairlane in Placerville. The El Dorado County Animal Services Shelter at 6435 Capitol Ave. in Diamond Springs is open to house animals displaced by the Evacuation Order. If no one answers the door, please call 530-621-5795.
