Try quick work of firefighters saved two different Sacramento County homes from devastation Saturday evening in Rancho Cordova.

Just before 6 p.m. Saturday evening, the 911 call center received calls for a fire that had broken out between two homes on the 10,000 block of Paiute Way in Rancho Cordova.

Multiple units from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department (Metro Fire), responded to the call. After seeing a visible column of smoke while en route, firefighters arrived on the scene where two neighboring duplex homes were on fire.

Metro firefighters quickly made an initial attack on the fire, knocking down the exterior flames on both structures and then proceeded with insuring all fire extension into the interiors of the homes was fully extinguished.

According to the report from Metro Fire, the occupants of both structures were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived on the scene.  At this time the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters remained in scene for just over two hours insuring the structures were otherwise fully extinguished and securing the homes.  A total of 15 Metro Fire units responded to the incident, including four engine companies, one truck company, one medic unit, and a rescue unit.  The department’s arson investigation unit was also dispatched, which is a common routine.

There were no injuries reported to residents or firefighters in the incident.
