RANCHO CORDOVA – Several residents were awakened and evacuated early Tuesday from an apartment building in Rancho Cordova as fire crews responded to a fast growing fire that damaged at least two units of the multi-family housing unit.

Sacramento Metro Fire received the call around 3:41 a.m. reporting the fire at the Cobblestone Apartments on Laurelhurst Drive, just off Highway 50.

Officials from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District report that the fire originated outside in vegetation and briefly spread into the building through a wall and into an attic space.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, containing the damage primarily to two units within the commercial building. No injuries were reported among the residents or emergency responders. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
