Two homes were saved,  but suffered serious damage after fire broke out between the two properties located in the Serrano community of El Dorado Hills Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. firefighters from both the El Dorado Hills Fire Department and CalFire’s Amador-El Dorado Unit were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire near residential homes on Archetto Drive.

Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters found that a fence between two homes was on fire, with flames extending into one of the homes. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack and quickly contained the fire within the primary home and performed an exterior attack on the secondary home to contain the fire.

According to the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, the primary home in which the fire extend within the interiors of suffered significant damage. The neighboring home reportedly sustained moderate exterior damage. Damage to both homes is approximately $250,000, according to the department.

Nobody was home at the primary residence when the fire broke out, and the occupant next door was alerted by neighbors of the fire, according to the report. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Battling this fire was especially challenging due to the 109-degree heat. After extinguishing the fire, crews were dispatched to the Pay Fire near the Placerville Airport. A busy day for our firefighters,” the department said in a statement.

The Pay Fire broke out earlier in the day Saturday, prompting evacuations in Placerville and a response by multiple fire agencies in the region to provide aid.  The fire is contained to 77.5 acres as of Monday morning and is reportedly holding within its lines.

Firefighters are battling an additional fire in the Tahoe National Forest that broke out on Sunday afternoon.  Known as the Royal Fire near Royal Gorge near the area of Soda Springs Road, it has burned 168 acres so far as of Monday morning. There currently is no containment of the fire according to CalFire.
