The City of Folsom Public Works Department will begin a new phase of traffic improvements at the intersection of Iron Point Road and East Bidwell Street starting next week.
The construction, scheduled to start on Monday, October 21, and run through the morning of Saturday, October 26, aims to enhance both traffic flow and safety at the busy intersection. Work will take place overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., to reduce disruptions to traffic during the day.
One of the major updates includes the addition of a third left-turn lane for westbound traffic on Iron Point Road turning south onto East Bidwell Street. This new lane is expected to reduce congestion, particularly during peak travel times, by providing more capacity for turning vehicles and improving overall traffic efficiency at the intersection.
Another significant change involves a new lane configuration for southbound traffic on East Bidwell Street, between Iron Point Road and the U.S. 50 westbound on-ramp. The far-right lane will be designated for vehicles heading onto the on-ramp, while the middle lane will offer flexibility. Drivers in the middle lane will have the option to either merge onto the on-ramp or continue south on East Bidwell Street. This change is designed to better distribute traffic and reduce bottlenecks in the area. Motorists are advised to pay close attention to new signage and road markings that will guide them through the updated lane setup.
Additionally, the existing high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane on the U.S. 50 westbound on-ramp will be converted into a metered general-purpose lane. This adjustment is aimed at improving traffic flow by expanding the capacity available for all drivers during peak hours.
Although construction will occur overnight to minimize disruptions, drivers can expect temporary lane and ramp closures throughout the project. Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs and remain cautious as they pass through the work area. The city encourages all drivers to plan for extra travel time during the construction period to avoid delays.
According to city officials the project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic infrastructure and enhance safety at high-traffic locations.
